Becks Skinner is coming back to talk to us on Wednesday 13th May about her latest project: Mrs Davidson’s Wedding Dress.

Inspired by a Wedding Dress from 1911, within The Beacon Museum Collection, Becks set herself the challenge of making a ‘going away’ outfit from the period, using her 1905 Frister and Rossman Sewing Machine and learning historical hand sewing techniques.
This talk explores the research carried out as part of the project, as we look for traces of Mrs Davidson's story through the records left of her life in Egremont and St Bees. What was life like for Women during this time? What would they have been wearing and how was the fashion’s changing during her lifetime?

If you are already a member I hope that you will find everything you’re looking for- the calendar for future events is updated frequently, some policy documents are here for your information and many of our more recent general meetings are described in the reports section. Each of the groups have a section too and if there is anything you would like to know which isn’t here you know that myself or the other members of the committee are only too happy to help.
If you are new to our U3A, we are part of a nationwide group which strives to offer friendship and interesting activities to people who are retired, semi-retired or in part time work and would love to see you at one of our meetings. We charge just £3 to cover our costs and if you like what you find there is an annual membership fee of £7. Our variousgroup leaders have been working really hard and have a great year lined up with some great speakers and lots of activities planned. Why not look at the calendar, find the next meeting and join us in the warm every other Wednesday for our main group meetings where friendly people, an interesting speaker, great coffee and delicious cake are waiting for you.
