WILL RAWLING "A Year in the Life of a Hill Farmer" - 8th January 2025

We had a really interesting talk by Cumbrian Hill Farmer from Ennerdale called Will Rawling who took us through a typical year up on the fells, explaining how he and his family look after his flock of Herdwick sheep. Will talked about how the hill farmers worked together to bring the sheep off the fells, how his dogs were an essential part of his team, how and why the sheep were marked with different colours and how they ensured the quality of his flock. What was really surprising was how much of his job was news to the audience and everyone came away feeling that they had learnt a lot - Will has promised to come back next year and we’re looking forward to hearing more about his hard but rewarding life.
